WGG WORKSHOPS
Casting Workshop
Instructor: Michael Schwartz
August 9 and 10 (Sat & Sun) 10 am-4 pm
Students will learn basic design, layout and wax work for lost wax centrifugal casting. Alternative low cost methods of casting will be demonstrated as well as an introduction to more advanced systems. There will be demonstrations on gravity, vacuum and cuttlefish bone casting. Each student will complete one piece using the centrifugal casting technique.
The cost of the workshop is $130 for WGG members and $160 for non-members. The workshop will be held at Creative Metalworks School of Design, 10449 Metropolitan Avenue (Gallery entrance is upstairs at 10501 Wheatley Street), Kensington, MD 20895, Phone: 301-933-1500.
A jeweler for 30 years, Mr. Schwartz earned his Bachelor of Science degree concentrating in jewelry fabrication and casting and received his Master of Education degree from the University of Maryland. He has built a national reputation as an artist and metalsmith. His work can be seen in art galleries and at exhibitions and read about in national magazines, newspapers and professional journals.
After more than twenty years in Washington, DC, Mr. Schwartz moved his business, Creative Metalworks, to Kensington, MD. Creative Metalworks is a design and manufacturing company for the museum and arts industries, a quality foundry for precious metals, a complete molding and reproduction facility and a most formidable jewelry and smithing studio.
